Wheelbarrow rides and funny songs...
My grandfather passed away last night at 84 years old. We should all be so fortunate to live that long. He was such a wonderful man and loved his family. Sitting at the hospital the last few days we told stories and it got me thinking about growing up with paw-paw. His favorite story to tell Lance was about doing yard work when I was little, no matter where I was in the yard if he went to empty that big old white wheelbarrow I would come from out of nowhere to jump in and ride back up to the yard! My fondest memories are hiding in his lap behind the newspaper when playing hide and seek from granny, twirling his masonic ring around his finger when sitting next to him in church, him dressed up as Joseph in the live manger scene every Christmas, and most of all he could sing about anything!! He loved to sing!! I love music and feel certain that's were I get it from. He would start out humming Amazing Grace or Blessed Assurance and the next thing you knew he was belting out whatever rhymed and the more tickled I got the sillier the song would get!! I remember going on a camping trip with him when I was 9 or 10 and he could dive into a pool better than anyone I had ever seen...looking back on that he was in his 60's so that's pretty impressive! He never ran out of stories, never met a stranger and you could take him to timbuktu and he would have seen someone he knew there!! He could always make you smile and feel at ease. He was right there on my wedding day and for the births of Haley and Brock waiting patiently in the waiting room to come in and see! I hate this baby won't know paw-paw but I am sure his presence will be felt the day the baby is born!
