Up until this one I would have put Sharks Tooth Creek as my favorite field trip and Huntsville visiting the Christmas at the train depot and Elf training and colonial village seeing the real reindeer as my second. This has passed both of those for several reasons... #1 it wasn't as far as huntsville and just as much bang for less buck...they do have most of those same Christmas attractions. #2 no matter the weather you can still go here because with an umbrella or coat or whatever the weather is calling for you only have to go from house to house but you are inside for the INTERACTIVE presentations!!! (and it is interactive for every single child there, not just one or two or none in the case of some of the trips we have been on) If you go on a day like we did, gorgeous, not too sunny but cold then the room between the houses was the perfect amount of running for the kids before they sat again. Here are some of the highlights for us...
Inside a GORGEOUS church building was this Eagle and since Brock loves all things Eagle he had to get his picture with it.
The Liberty Bell was in a courtyard with the ammendments each written out on markers on the ground...it was really neat to go from marker to marker explaining them to the kids.
Servants quarters outside the main house.
Beautiful doorway!! The kids showing their silly faces.
And a good one! I love that Haley has her knees bent some and Ty has his feet crossed.
This was a separate museum.
This is the chapel I was referring to earlier.
Haley in the stockades...kinda
Ty's turn...
Brock's turn
Isn't this house beautiful?!
Getting some energy out
The barns for the horses.
Inside one of the buildings next to the George Washington statue

Did I mention we went with our co-op group?! We had 45 on this outing. I cannot tell you how much we have enjoyed being a part of the homeschool co-op.
Another beautiful building!
That is the back of Brock's head with the gray and red hat on and the little girl smiling at him is Lauren. She was in his class last year but has moved and homeschools this year. Always nice to see familiar faces! In Haley's age group there are 3 that she was in class with in public school and with all of them their whole families homeschool. It has been such a God thing for us and their moms all say the same! We are so blessed to have this experience homeschooling Haley Grace.
Ya-ya went with us to American Village, we are so blessed to have grandparents that are so willing to come along for the fun.
This is in the courtroom and each of the students had a piece of a big puzzle...each puzzle piece had a scene form Abraham Lincoln's life on one side and when the puzzle was completely assembled it was a picture of Mr Lincoln. They sang a song about his life and after every verse they stopped, if your piece had the part of the song they sang about you got to put your piece on the puzzle board.
Haley's turn
Brock and Ty even got to participate.
This was in the oval office, which was extremely authentic! These wonderful volunteers are showing all the hats the president has to wear...chief of staff, boss, keep up with party promises, etc.
Another view of the office.
They did four rotations, the first was the courtroom with the Abraham Lincoln thing. The second was "Vote for your George" we met King George and George Washington and their wives in there. They each gave you their opinion on some subjects and you had to vote for which George you would prefer to be in charge. (for example how long will you be in office? King George explained very arrogantly that he was born into royalty and would be the leader until he died and then his son would take over. George Washington very kindly explained that he would not serve but four years and then the people would vote again if they wanted him to stay he could serve a maximum of four more years but if the people chose someone else he was glad he got to serve the people)
The third rotation was to the oval office and the fourth was a big open room and each child put on a headband with mouse ears and on the inside of the headband was a label. Then they read a story to the children about a mouse who was president and all that it took to run a country, the kids had to stand or go to the front when their person was mentioned in the story.
After our rotations we go to go all over the property to see the buildings that were not included in our rotations. All my kids had a great time! I was afraid Ty would be bored but he is still talking about the details of it all. He was like a sponge listening to everything they said. It was a really fun day!
