The Dermatologist

We saw the dermatologist this morning and he confirmed that it looked like a "drug eruption". He said it is very uncommon to be allergic to Lortab and much more common to have this reaction to an antibiotic but he has seen one other case like this to Lortab. We are supposed to see the Orthopedist Monday afternoon so we are going to double check with him and make sure she wasn't given any antibiotics immediately before or after surgery because we know she wasn't given any in the room with us. If the answer is no then no more hydrocodone for Miss Haley Grace...EVER!! He says the bad thing with that is most of the pain meds out now are very similar so it could be challenging to find her one. Our plan is after the first of the year to take her to an allergist at Children's and have them test what was used as anesthesia before surgery and also codeine, hydrocodone, etc. there in a controlled environment to see just what all she allergic to and to what extent! She will have to be put to sleep again next summer to have these plates removed and so we have to know before then to hopefully avoid this scenario EVER AGAIN!! He gave us a stronger version of basically Benadryl (because Benadryl wasn't doing a thing for her) and an ointment to put on twice a day to help with itching. It worked at naptime thank goodness because the child has scratched all night the last two nights and desperately needed some relief so she could get some rest! Hopefully it will work again tonight! When she got up from her nap the rash was back on her tummy and her inner thighs but he warned us it could come and go for weeks so hopefully it will go as quickly as it appeared this time and not blister! We replaced her bandage over her incision last night and it was covering awful blisters but that material couldn't get air to it and appears to be much better this evening! Please continue to pray for Haley, she is such a trooper! She just smiles through it all and laughs at Brock and his silliness!
