Upward Basketball

Brock is playing upward again this year.  His team is the Timberwolves.  Lance has ended up coaching, the man that was going to coach stepped down before the first practice?!  So Lance and another dad ended up with the team.  They are doing a really good job and the kids are learning a lot and having fun.  They are improving a lot week by week. Last year Brock could not get enough of basketball as soon as we signed up he was constantly practicing in the driveway, dribbling, shooting, etc.  This year he doesn't have that same passion for it.  He will play if we are right there with him but he would rather being playing baseball.  He is so ready to be back on the ball field.  He seems to be enjoying this but I think this will probably be his last year with upward.

Some action shots...we have two girls on our team.

They pray before every game and at halftime someone leads a devotional for the friends and family that have come to watch.  The kids pass of bible verses and do a  devotional at practice.  Brock is such a logical and inquisitive child.  A few weeks ago Lance was telling doing the devotional with the team and the story was about having courage.  There was a little girl who had seen a need for more food at her local foodbank and had collected an outrageous amount of canned goods.  Well he gave the exact number of cans and to help the kids imagine it told them it would fill up about half of the gym...he went on with the story and Brock raised his hand..."Dad, how did she carry all those cans by herself?" Lance tried to get him to let it go and just listen to the point of the story.  A few minutes later Brock said, "Dad there is no way she carried those all by herself and how big a truck would you have to have to get those to the foodbank?  I mean what kind of truck do you think she put all those cans in?"  Needless to say he missed the point of her having enough courage to ask her community to help and so on.  That is just Brock he has to get his mind around the details.

Teaching the kids the ins and outs of the game is stressed so if they have to blow the whistle for something that they think the kids might not have known about they stop and explain to them why what they were doing is not okay.  It is really good because then they don't feel bad about whatever it was, traveling, picking, stealing, etc.

Brock throwing it in...

And blocking...he is really good at blocking!

And dribbling down the court.  We are so proud of him.   He tries really hard and is a good little basketball player.  I think what I love the most is whatever Brock is doing sports, school, playing in the yard, helping one of us, playing a video game, etc. he gives it 100%.
